I have made good experiences with long distance relationships in the past. As long as trust is established and there is no jealousy involved it should be fine. It also is a big advantage if both sides have a minimum level of independence (have their own life besides work and the relationship). This way ensures that everybody involved is looking forward to the next meeting and nobody thinks that he or she has to satisfy the neediness of the other half. Being needy and jealous kills every relationship, doesn't matter if short or long distance. Hope it helps.

From my own personal experience, it depends on how strong each of you are. We live an hour away from where I work, so on the days I work (my shift is a 12 hour shift), I pretty much don't see my wife or daughter at all. I'm also in the Navy Reserves. I've deployed all over the world, for as short as 3 months, and as long as a yr. My wife and I just celebrated our 13th wedding anniversary, so, yes, long distance marriages can last. But, it takes a lot of patience, strength, trust and prioritizing, and it's not easy, at all. Good luck to you.
